SPILLWAY SAC-LIAT TRIP
Hello fellow anglers. What a great trip into the beautiful atchafalaya spillway. I met my charter at the Holiday Inn at 5 am and we were off on what would turn out to be a great trip. We made the regular bait stop at Dickie’s sports shop and bought some live bait and groceries for the trip and we were off. I met Bob (my partner for today) through my reports on this fine site and he expressed an interest in learning the spillway area and the techniques on fishing this great estuary and I said that was one of my specialties, that is the spillway and I would be happy to teach him my wealth of knowledge gained in my 45 plus years of fishing in and around the spillway.
With all the conditions in line as per the Mississippi river level, the atchafalaya river level the moon cycle and the water temp and clarity the good day was almost a given. The first stop was all it took to fill the box with fish and caught and released 3 times more then we kept just to enjoy being out in the wild and bending the rod. After getting the good trip under our belt we went on a tour of the central spillway with map in hand to show Mr. Bob some of the better canals and sloughs he could try during his future trips to the spillway. although he said he would make several more trips with me before he would feel comfortable to venture out on his own.We caught fish every where we tried on many different baits with the most sacalait coming on live shiners and most of the bream being caught on Canadian wigglers but we caught bass on plastic worms in junebug with green glitter, spinner baits in white with silver and gold blades and on silver with black back rattle trap crank baits and several bass on lunker lures in chartreuse early in the morning. We also caught a lott of other fish on 1/32 ounce beetle spins in the craw fish color after we ran out of live bait. The final fish count for the day was 5 nice bass 121 bream and goggles and 35 sacalait.
A good time was had bad all and an amass of fish were caught (more than Mr. Bob had ever caught in one trip EVER) and released today. One good thing to see was the amount of small bass that were all over the spillway and that we caught with the bass running from 10 inches to about 3.5 pounds.
If you would like to make a trip weather it be to the spillway or any fresh water or salt water venue in the state I have fished most of them. But I specialize and am based out of the spillway for fresh water and Shell Beach for the salt water trips. The red fishing is still hot and the speckled trout just started to run with the full moon cycle. I would love to take you fishing.
Remember our motto RAIN OR SHINE SLEET OR SNOW OR OIL SLICK IF YOU COME WE WILL WIll GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Capt. Ron

Mr. Davids first black drum
Hello fellow anglers. What a windy day on the water at the beach but still made a great trip with a wonderful couple in for a visit form their transplanted home in Florida. Mr. David and his lovely wife Mrs. Paula were in New Orleans for a vacation, some sight seeing and to take in some of the great jazz events going on in the crescent city right now and also wanted to get into some of the great fishing experiences that Shell Beach is so famous for.
After a small communication mishap we hooked up and I picked the lovely couple up at the historic Roosevelt hotel for the ride to the dock. When we arrived at the dock we were greetd by a strong west wind and low dirty water but that did’nt stop the hungry fish from biting and that they were. We caught reds drums and flounder from the first cast (which Mr. David caught a beautiful flounder) until the last the action wasn’t fast and furious but it was steady. All fish today were caught on market shrimp 2 feet under a rattling cork but we tried live minnows which on Sunday had produced a good number of fat trout but today Nada, as a matter of a fact we didn’t even catch a single speckled trout were we caught a good mess of them just the day before. The couple wanted to practice catch and release so we caught and released and captured pictures for Mrs. Paula’s collection, well over our limits of red fish and black drums and a few nice flounders mixed in just for a little variety.
All in all we had a great outdoor adventure and caught plenty of fish and a great time laughing and and visiting and reminiscing about Mr. David’s previous visit during the Katrina clean up effort. On our drive to the dock Mr. David was in shock to how much devastation still exists in the lower ninth ward but was glad to see how much the surrounding area had bounced back from such a devastating storm.
The fishing continues to be outstanding in Shell Beach Louisiana and if you would like to enjoy some of the rod bending action going on right now and in the future give me a call or drop me an email I’d love to take you and yours fishing.
Our motto is RAIN OR SHINE SLEET OR SNOW IF YOU COME WE WILL GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello fellow anglers. What a great trip today. I Met the guys at the dock at 7 am and they were ready to bend the rod and that we did. Today I had on the boat with me John Ricky and Volley in from baton rouge and they said they were up for what ever was biting. It looked like the wind was going to be slack but before we could make it out into Black Bay it was pumping 20 miles per hour out of the west so we started hitting some spots around oak river and lake campo and we caught reds and drums almost every where we fished with a few specks mixed in. The reds ranged from 10 pounds to just over 17 inches all the right size for the grill. All of the trout were loaded with eggs so this full moon cycle will be the start of the spring spawn but I think the next full moon cycle will be the smoking one for the spring spawn.
Most of the fish were caught on market shrimp 2 feet under a rattling cork but we caught fish also on minnows and caught a few trout on glow coca-hoes with the chartreuse tail slow rolled off the bottom. We tried some top water baits and had a few strikes but no hook ups. The water was still just 72 degrees, down almost 4 degrees from last week. The reds were real aggressive but the trout were still a little slow to hit but its really close to blow out time.
The fish box continues to come back full of fish and if you would like to get your turn to fill up the box give me a call or drop me an email but you better do it quick because the days are filling up fast.
Remember our motto RAIN OR SHINE SLEET OR SNOW IF YOU COME WE WILL GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1 big ugly sucker
dock shot
Hello fellow anglers. What a great day on the water with a very fun group of guys. Jason and his fishing buddies came in from Now Orleans early for a early start on filling the fish box and the beach didn’t let them down. The guys are used to fishing out of canoes in close proximity to the docks around the marinas and they wanted to go on a REAL fishing expedition so they called the king and he hooked them up.
The day started off with a stellar sunrise and a slight breeze a perfect combination to ride out to the sound so we fired up the yammahammer and off we went. The first stop was on fire with fish and were they ever hungry. Almost before I could get the rig hook on one of the guys was hooked up and that was the way it went until we had almost a full box of mixed fish including red fish drums and bay snappers. After the first rig we hit another rig close by and that was a wrap as they say.The guys could really fish and had a great time bending the rod with us. This was one of their first times on a chartered trip but they said it certainly wasn’t gonna be their last.
The fish today were caught on market shrimp rigged on a Carolina rig and also on shrimp 3 feet under a rattling cork. The final fish tally was 25 reds 10 puppy drums 25 bay snappers and 2 lonely trout (all the fish box could hold and then some). After the box was stuffed the guys caught and released for about 2 hours before we called it a day.
What a great day on the water the trout are starting tos show up now and the spring spawn is on the horizon probably the next full moon cycle should kick off the trout melee for the 2010 fishing season. The week end days are filling up fast so if you would like to make a trip give me a call or drop me an email i”d love to take you fishing.

FINALLY THE TROUT SHOW UP IN HOPEDALE
Hello fellow anglers. What a great day on the water with a great family Mr. Kenny and his sons Luke, Dean, and Sean came in from Jackson Mississippi for some of La. best fishing experiences and it did not let them down. After an absolutely beautiful sunrise we made the ride out into the sound where we had been picking up a few trout and much to my surprise the trout were there and hungry. we caught well over 150 trout with 51 largest enough to make the ride back to Miss. with the group. Most of the trout were caught on glow h&h cocahoes with a chartruse tail but we caught fish on chicken on a chain and Berkley gulp in new penny and pearl rigged on a 3/8 ounce jig head bounced off the bottom. we also picked up a few trout on live minnow under a popping cork but only a few most came on plastics but even those fish were hitting kind of funny just kind of sucking in the bait rather than aggressively hitting it.
After the trout slowed a bit the guys wanted to bend the rod a bit so off to the red fish holes we went for some rod bending (and breaking) action and drag screaming and hooting hollering fun to come. As they have been for the last month or so the reds were scattered all thru the Marsh with a few fish on most points ans cuts we fished. All of the reds and drums were caught on market shrimp under a cork. When we couldn’t get another fish in the fish box and the guys crying about sore arms we called it a day and headed for the dock.
A great time was had by all and every one caught their share of fish and then some. The final fish count for the day was 51 nice speckled trout 15 reds 6 drums and 2 bay snappers. The guys have been on the boat with me several times before and cant wait until their next trip down in the summer. The summer weekends are booking up fast so if you would like to get into some of the best speckled trout and red fishing in the world give me a call or drop me an email I would love to take you fishing.

Hello fellow anglers. What a wind blown day on the water!!! I had a group of poker buddies from Baton Rouge that wanted to learn the Shell Beach and Delacroix marsh area and learn some good fishing spots and asked if I would take them fishing in their boat and that is a part of my bussiness that most people don’t even know that exists, I said sure its called a ride along and I do it all the time becaus it is much easier for some one to learn a new area when you are driving your own boat and watching the routes that you take in and out of the new location and also with the new electronics on most boats tracks can be laid down on them and that makes it so easy to go back to the area and not have to worry about getting lost and not making it back to the launch site. For the money I think its the best investment a fisherman can make to better their chances of catching fish which is the ultimate goal of a fishing trip and gaining the knowledge that a guide like myself has gained with over 25 years of fishing this area.
I met the guys that drove in this morning at the dock at 6 am and after a little battery problems we were off to have a good time. Mr. John wanted to start in the Black Bay area and I told we could try if the wind would let us but this time of year the weather is hit or miss and today was no exception with te weather man predicting 10 mph winds we tried but when we hit the bay it was more like 25 knots than 10 knots so we went to plan-B. We started arou nd the interior lakes around lake Campo and four horse and we caught speckled trout every where we fished but a Lott of throw backs mixed in but its was good to see the trout FINALLY showing up. After chasing specks for a while I asked the guys were they ready to bend the rod and they said what was the hold up and off we went to a spot around Four horse and as we say that was a wrap. Before I could get the anchor set two of the guys had a fish on and the action was steady until the 100 quart ice chest was level full with red fish and black drum and bay snappers. The final fish count for the day was 23 red fish 13 black drum 10 speckled trout and 3 bay snappers. A good time was had by all and every one caught plenty of fish. These guys were a balst to fish with and they cant wait until the next time we can go out to do it again.
The trout action is starting to heat up right now and the the red fishing and black drum fishing continues to be great also the fresh water fishing is great right now with plenty of bass, bream and sacalait and catfish being caught on our trips so if you would like to make a fishing trip with us give me a call or drop me an email id love to take you and yours out on the water.
We also test drove a new boat that we are fixing to add to our boat fleet a 28 foot world cat boat that my brother Ricky is going to captain out of to catch the big boys like red snapper tuna yahoo grouper ling and any other deep sea fish that might be caught on an off shore trip. The boat was phenominal with the way it handled the four foot rollers in lake Maure-pas and it really impressed me with the speed (56 mph +) and the handling of the side seas that a lot of the cats have trouble with. It was mine and my brothers first time in a planing catamaran boat ever and we were both pleased with every aspect of the boat and cant wait to add it to our fleet to increase our fishing options.
With the new big boat it will make our motto even easier to live up to which is RAIN OR SHINE SLEET OR SNOW IF YOY COME WE WILL GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello fellow anglers what a beautiful day on the water with a great group of firemen. The guys came in from Zachary Louisiana for a great day of rod bending (and breaking) action that weve been having as of late in Hopedale and the guys were not let down.
Today I had the pleasure of guiding Mr.Roy Bobby and Shawn and what a great family. It’s always great to see a family that has a great time getting together and enjoying the great outdoors that we are so blessed with here in Louisiana. The day looked like it was gonna be a breeze with clear skies and the winds predicted to be 5 to 10 knots but as usual the weather man missed and with a vengence today. We made the ride out to the sound only to be greeted by a stiff 25-30 cross wind from the east and a good 4 foot set of waves. So off to plan B and as they say that was a wrap. We started fishing around the rocks and the actio n was’nt fast and furious but was steady with Mr. Roy starting the action but only to be upstaged by the by his son and I must add the MASTER fisherman of the day Shawn.
We had a great time on the water from the first cast until all of the market shrimp were gone and lots of ribbing laughing and joking around and fishing talk of trips gone by and a lott of talk about the next time we can get together and do it again. The final fish tally for the day was 19 reds 12 npuppy drums and 4 bay snappers with a ton of throw backs mixed in.
If you would like to get in on some of the great action going on now in the Louisiana marshes and bayous weather it be fresh water or salt water give me a call or drop me an email and lets go fishing.
As always remember our motto RAIN OR SHINE SLEET OR SNOW IF YOU COM WE WILL GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A table full of fun

The crew for today
Hello fellow anglers. What a great day on the water with a very fun group of guys. The guys came in from all over south Louisiana for some fun and fellow ship on the water and we had plenty of both. The group had fished plenty of times together before and this was another great trip for their memory banks.
The weather looked a little iffy at best when we arrived at the dock but the guys said we came to fish RAIN OR SHINE so we loaded up and off we went into the wild blue yonder or the beautiful shell beach marsh. Luckily it wasn’t as bad as it looked and we only got a few showers not the deluge that was scheduled to hit us.
We started fishing around some of the interior pounds around four horse lake and there were plenty of fish with lots of throw backs mixed in with some good fish mixed in. Most of the fish were caught on market shrimp 3 feet under a cork but we also caught trout on minnows and some small trout came on plastics in various colors under a cork and tight lined on the bottom but the trout were still on the small side.
We made a move to a deep hole off of the twins and it was on the fish were stacked up on this point with the strong incoming tide pushing bait straight in their mouths along with our hooks. This hole was all it took to fill the box with some quality fish. Some times it was a job netting all the fish with double hook ups and some times triples but we managed to get almost all of them in the boat. We ended the day with a 4 man limit of reds 20 with some of them 10+ pounds and 9 puppy drums 8 trout and 2 flounders. All in all a great day on the water with a great group of guys. These guys said they cant wait for the spring trout slam to start and they were coming back for more action then.
The fishing is great at the beach now and so is the fresh water fishing in the spillway so if you would like to make a fishing trip with me weather it be for red fish speckled trout flounder bass crappie or bream we catch plenty of all of them , I would love to take you and yours out to enjoy this great outdoor bounty that good has blessed us with here in Louisiana. We are also in the process of buying a big cat boat for our offshore trips this year so if you would like to make a red snapper grouper ling or tuna trip get your dates on the books because the snapper season is gonna be a short on this year.
Remember our motto RAIN OR SHINE SLEET OR SNOW IF YOU COME WE WILL GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Capt. Ron
