Hello fellow anglers. What a great fishing trip with a nice family, these guys have been on the boat with me several times before and have caught a lot of fish with me on their other trips but I told them that today didn’t look too good in advance because the wind was howling at daylight and the fish have started their transition to the inside spots but in spite of all the negatives we always seem to make lemonade out of the lemons that we have.
We met at the dock at 6 am and armed with Campos live shrimp we headed out to the outer lakes and the first stop started off with nothing but small catfish but after chumming for 15 or 20 minutes the speckled trout showed up and some good sized ones at that and also we were catching some white trout mixed in and Dean also caught a giant black drum right in the middle of where we were catching the trout and a giant he was bottoming out my 40 pound scale. When the fish started they were steady eating until we limited out on specks (75) and kept about 20 nice white trout for supper we headed into the inner pounds to try and ice the box off with a few red fish and puppy drums but the high pressure had the scattered out and we could only manage to catch a bunch of rats and a few keeper reds and 1 puppy drum but with that said we still kept almost 100 fish for the table with plenty left over for the freezer for later fish fries. All fish fell to live shrimp rigged 3 feet under a rattling cork today but I did catch a few on plastics bounced off the bottom in the usual colors. A great time was had by all and the guys couldn’t wait to get home to rib their brothers and Kenny’s other sons about not coming today and all the fun that they missed and you can bet they wont miss the next trip he said.
