The  red fish slam continues in Hopedale!!!!!!!!

Hello fellow anglers. What a great fishing trip with a very nice family in from Baton Rouge for a last minute red fish slam trip with before 2010 is wrapped up and today was no exception with one stop shopping the ticket for today. I met Mr. Charlie and his lovely fiancee Ms. Cheryl and Charlies son Gabriel and Gabes friend Mathew at the dock after a night in the trailers and the boys were chomping at the bit to catch a few fish and today we filled the fish box to the top and then some with the group catching their limits of red  fish in a little over an hour and then the boys caught and released at least another 100  or so keeper sized reds just for the pure fun of it.

After the boys were wore out catching so many reds we made a short tour around the marsh so Ms. Cheryl could get some pictures to remember the trip by.The final fish count for the day was  25 red fish and 1 puppy drum. Most fish were caught today on market shrimp on the bottom but other boats around us were catching them on various colored plastics also. All in all it was a great day on the water with plenty of rod bending action for the young ones and that’s what today was allabout.

If you would like to make a trip Capt. Ron  give us a call or drop us an email we would love to take you and your friends and family fishing but call early because the available days are going fast.If you would like to take a trip please give me a call or drop me an email and we can arrange the trip of your lifetime.                    Hello fellow anglers. What a great fishing trip with a nice family in to celebrate Christmas with us in shell beach. It was tough conditions today but we made a great day of it and ended up with a box full of nice fat specks.I met the group at Capt. Franks place and they followed me to my dock and we loaded up and headed out to the lake and it was one stop shopping today from the start the trout were steady big today with almost no throw backs.

Today I had the pleasure of guiding Mr. Bill (Slim as he likes to be called) and his lovely daughter Jessie in from Mississippi to celebrate Christmas in south Louisiana. Neither Slim or his daughter had ever fished the La. coast so today was new to them but it didn’t take long to get the hang of it.All fish today were caught on live Campos shrimp 2 feet under a rattling cork. The final fish tally was 75 trout and 2 puppy drums.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!

Hello fellow anglers. What a wonderful day on the water and it started out with an absolutely stunning sunrise and ended up with a fish box full of fish and lots of smiles. I met the guys at the dock at 7 am with a bait well full of Campos kind of live and barely kicking shrimp we headed out to the close ponds around lake Robin and at the first stop we waxed the fish almost from the first cast it was trout slinging over the side until we finished the limits in short order and went in search of some red fish for the grill and after 4  or 5 keeper reds the guys put the wrap on a fine day on the water with family and friends.

Today I had the pleasure of guiding Mr. Frank in from Diamond head Mississippi and his son in law Mr. Larry in from California for some good old rest and relaxation in conjunction with the hustle and bustle of this Christmas season. All fish today were caught on live shrimp 2 feet under a rattling cork. The final fish count for the day was 75 nice specks and 5 red fish.

Hello fellow anglers. What a great fishing trip with a fun group of guys in from Zachary La. and Streiff was in from Switzerland to catch some fish. I was hoping to catch a few speckled trout today and I was happy that I was able to get some live shrimp this morning and it definitely made a big difference because at the first stop in Lake Robin we started catching trout slowly  but surely we caught  a good mess of trout before the bite slowed and we made a move to lake Calabasse and that was just the ticket we needed because we ended up our trout  haul there. We made a move to a pond off of middle bayou and caught 7 nice red fish and 4 drums and 2 fat flounder to round the trip out.

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Zach , Rich and Strieff in from Zachary Louisiana and Monarch Switzerland. Most of the fish were caught today on live shrimp rigged 3 feet under a rattling cork but the reds and drums were caught on dead bait Carolina rigged off the bottom. The final fish count for the day was 75 nice specks 7 red fish 4 puppy drums and 2 flounders.

Hello fellow anglers. What a great fishing trip with a fun group of men. I met the guys at the dock and the conditions didn’t look optimum for a good day but as my dad always said it is what it is so with no live bait we got some market bait and headed out. The water was about 3 feet low and at the first stop in lake Ameeda we were greeted with chocolate milk looking water and no fish so to spot #2 in Hopedale lagoon with the same results so we were off deeper into the marsh. Spot #3 in lake Robin the water looked a little better but with the water temperature at 42 degrees the trout were in neutral so we shifted gears and started looking in the deep holes and low and behold that was the ticket for today because at the second hole off of crooked bayou the fish were there and stacked up. It took a few minutes to get the fish worked up but when they did brother can I tell you they were eating it up and for 4 hours it was a fish on or a hit every cast with bull red fish up to 20 pounds black drums and bay snappers mixed in and the guys also caught two thunder head black drums that bottomed out the scale at over 50 pounds and  were the largest fish that Dave and Rocky had ever caught. It was a great stop that made a bad a really great day and with aching arms and the fish box stuffed to the over flowing point we called it a wrap.

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Mr. Rocky from Prairieville and Mr. Dave and his son Dusty from Baton Rouge to have a good rod bending time in Hopedale and we succeeded in doing just that. Today all fish were caught on market shrimp Carolina rigged off the bottom. The final fish count for the day was 19 red fish 2o black drums 5 bay snappers and 1 door mat flounder with at least 100 or more throw backs. All in all the guys ended up with  a 60 quart igloo full to the top with fish on the half shell ready for the gril.

Hello fellow anglers. What a great fishing trip with a repeat customer of mine in from Florida for some rod bending action this winter and I figured it would be worth a ride out to a rig where a friend of mine had caught some huge drum and some gorilla red fish and all the bay snappers they could handle a few days ago. I picked the guys up at the dock fresh from the french quarter and they were ready to go so armed with a bunch of dead bait we headed out to the sound and sure enough at the first (and only stop we needed) the fish were there and eating it up as fast as the guys and gals could bait up it was rod bending drag screaming action with a mixed bag of gorilla reds up to 25 pounds giant drums up to 40 pounds and huge bay snappers on every cast. The group had a really good time and after a few hours the fish box was bursting at the seams  and I asked the group did they want to try to catch a few trout but all they wanted to do was bend the rod a few more times and they would be happy doing it right where we were at and that’s what we did.

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Ryan, Jake and Alyssa in from Fort Meyers Florida for some R&R and some good old rod bending fun in Shell Beach and I’m glad I was able to fill that bill for them on his trip. The final fish count for the day was 22 red fish 11 puppy drums and too many bay snappers to count. All fish today were caught on market shrimp Carolina rigged on or just off the bottom. The guys really had a blast and scheduled their next trip down in the spring for the spring spawn and boy should this nyear ever be a good one.

Hello fellow anglers. What a great fishing trip with a good friend of mine, we all call him Spider man and he is a fine gentleman and a very good fisherman at that. I met my friend at the dock at 6:30 and armed with some very lethargic shrimp from Campos (but glad to have them any way) we headed out to lake Ameeda and from the start the trout were there and biting but not real aggressive because of the 45 degree water temperatures but steady for an hour or so and then the bite quit  there and we headed over to Hopedale lagoon and made a few drifts and picked up another 20 trout or so and 1 red fish. At the next stop we got on a real good bite and finished off our limits of fine specks with another red fish and 2 bay snappers also. The water temps had started to come up and as soon as they did the fish started eating it up and we caught and released trout for a while and with the day wearing away we headed to the dock with some good freezer fare aboard. The final fish count for the day was 50 fat speckled trout 2 red fish and 2 bay snappers. The winter fishing is good right now so if you would like to bend the rod over the holidays drop me a line or send me an email I would love to take you fishing.

Hello fellow anglers. This is Capt. Ronnie Hope coming to you with the fishing forecast from the Shell Beach,  Hopedale area for the coming month of January. Right now the trout and red fish have made the migration to the inside lakes and ponds and so have the shrimp and bait fish. The fishing so far this winter has been phenomenal on the live bait and also on market shrimp under a cork along the shore lines for red fish and black drums when the water levels are up around the grass but when the north fronts push through the red fish quit and its all speckled trout. In the coming month the live shrimp will not be available so for the most part the specks will be caught on plastics such as the cocahoe minnow look alikes in the most popular colors like opening night, glow, pearl,  chartreuse and my personal favorite winter color glow with the chartreuse tail. Also the suspending jerk baits such as the mirror lures in the bone and chartreuse and the green and black and the pink color combinations work well in the colder months. Alos th H&H bait company has introduced a new bait to the saltwater market called the TKO which is a shrimp look alike bait rigged on a worm type hook that can be fished free lined or with a split shot attached or under a cork worked in a popping action with a rattling cork.  The red fish can be caught around the edges of the interior lakes with market bait under a cork or in the deep holes Carolina rigged or on a jig head on the bottom but some red fish will hit spinners and spoons in the shallows on the warmer days but as the month wears down and the bait thins out the water temperatures fall the artificial will pick up.

If you would like to make a trip Capt. Ron Or Capt. Ricky give us a call or drop us an email we would love to take you and your friends and family fishing but call early because the available days are going fast.If you would like to take a trip please give me a call or drop me an email and we can arrange the trip of your lifetime.                                Hello fellow anglers. What a great fishing trip with a very nice group in from Raymond Miss. for some rod bending action down in Hopedale La. and it looked like it was going to be a tough day with the guys wanting to catch some red fish so we made the short ride out to lake Calabasse and the red fish were there but very wary  at first but we picked away at them and around 10 am they turned on around an island that I like to fish and the fish catching party was on. This island looked to be a little deeper around the points and that was the ticket because the next island it was more of the same with steady reds and puppy drums and some good specks mixed in with them and  even picked up 2 flounders for baking mixed in  with the rest of the fish.

After a couple more islands we were out of room in the fish box and with 4 very happy customers we headed to the barn and the work part of the trip for me any way. Most of the fish today were caught on market shrimp 2 feet under a rattling cork but several reds and drums were caught by Mr. Keith on plastics in the smoke and LSU colors on 3/8 oz  jig heads slow rolled in front of the cruising red fish. The final fish count for today was 25 reds 7 puppy drums 25 specks and 2 flounders. The trout were every where we went but the guys only wanted a few for supper and we caught them on the very first stop and the guys caught and released at least 50 or 75 more keeper sized trout in search of the reds. The guys had steady action from the first stop until we leveled off the fish box at 12 o’clock and they were already in anticipation of their next trip down in the spring.

Hello fellow anglers. Wow what a difference a few days makes on the conditions but I guess thats Louisiana for you. I met the guys at the dock at 6 am and knew it was gonna be a tough one when I saw 6 foot of mud under my bloat in the slip and boy was I ever right. As soon as we left the dock the water looked like you could walk on it it was so muddy and it seemed like every where we went the same water conditions prevailed but we would pick up a few fish every where we stopped but nothing to writhe home about until we hit the lee shore out deep in lake Calabasse and the water was at least where the fish might be able to see the bait and the fish were there and hungry. As we worked along the bank the shrimp were jumping out of the water trying to get away from the hungry trout to no avail. We ended our day at that spot and felt lucky to have a nice box of fish in spite of the tough water conditions.

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Mr. Jay and his long time buddy Mr.John in from Carlton Virginia to try for some of those succulent speckled trout that Louisiana is so famous for and we filled that bill today. All fish today were caught on live Campos shrimp rigged 3 feet under my new popping prop Cajun thunder cork and the extra noise that the prop on the cork made the difference in the off colored water that we had today. The final fish count for today was 75 specks 3 puppy drums 3 reds and 2 bay snappers.
