Hello fellow anglers. Today I was tired of sitting around the house so with nothing to do I thought to myself what about an early check out ride through the spillway and so off I went. I haven’t fished in the spillway this early many times but what the heck. The water didn’t look very good color but it was at the right level and after riding through middle fork and up to old river area I found some clear water in some dead end canals and sure enough the sacalait were there and they weren’t eating the jigs up but the action was steady with one fish here and one fish there. A lot of the sacs were small but there were some slabs mixed in and also I caught about 20 bass with 2 of them being big enough to keep.
All the fish today I caught on black with chartreuse tail tubes and blue with white tails tubes rigged on 1/32 oz. jig head and fished about 2 feet under a bullet cork. The fish wanted the bait on the fall today so you had to pop the cork and let the bait fall then every 5 or 10 seconds pop it again and most bites came then. The final fish count for today was 20 nice sacalait and 2 bass. Not bad for a 3 hour check out trip. The water is about 5 degrees from the optimum point to spark the big girls into the spawning mode so it wont be long now.
If you would like to make a trip Capt. One other foot note my daughter and her husband had been separated for quite a while and he has been out of work for the last 6 months and my daughter had no burial insurance so some of my fellow outdoors men have expressed an interest in making a charitable donation on their behalf and we set up a bank account for my grand babies at BR city parish credit union in Lauren Hopes name at po box 3521 Baton Rouge Louisiana 70821. Any donations no matter how small will help with the large funeral costs and the future care of my granddaughters

Hello fellow anglers. It with a heavy heart that I would like to share the sad passing of my beautiful daughter Lauren Hope. She left us to be with the Lord in her sleep early in the morning on Tuesday. She was going through a difficult time in her life but like her daddy she had pulled herself by her boot straps and moved on with her life. She had gotten a good job and just recently had gotten a considerable raise. We moved her into a very nice town home on Saturday and she was on cloud nine about her future and the road ahead of her. She left behind three beautiful babies (my little angels) Joie , Georgia and Jordyn who will dearly miss their mother. I was very lucky that in 2010 I had her and her whole family on the boat with me and we smoked the fish and the grand babies had so much fun playing with the live shrimp and fish and they had so much fun on the boat ride that you would have sworn they were on a ride at Disney world. Those memories will be with me forever.
If there is one thing that I can stress to my cyber-family is that we need to enjoy every minute with our loved ones whether it be on the water, in the woods, or just being in their presence because just like the wind in a whisper they can be gone. We had the pleasure of her presence for 26 short years and it seems just like yesterday that I held her in my arms when she was brought into this world kicking and screaming. Please if everyone would if they could keep her sister and her daughters in their prayers I would greatly appreciate it.

Hello fellow anglers. What a great fishing trip to start the new year off with a bang (and a box full of fish to boot!). I met teh guys at the dock at 7;30 and armed with some of Campos live shrimp and a veritable plethora of new plastics from Berkley baits to try out. From the looks of the water levels I thought it was going to be a tough day and at first it was but as soon as the water started to warm up so did the bite and from 8;30 on it was steady action with the trout eating the shrimp as fast as they hit the water and the action steady on the new colors of Berkley swim baits in the glow with chartreuse tails and the pearl with the black back and their new color light emerald green with the red glitter rigger on flutter hooks and bounced off the bottom. Some fish were also caught on the cork rigged with plastics in various colors but a lot slower than on the bottom or on the live shrimp.
Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Mr. Bob and hid brother Mr. Rick and Ricks son Todd in from Dallas Texas for some good old rod bending action and to get some meat for the freezer and we did plenty of both of them today. Mr. Bob had invited his nephew to come to Louisiana for his birthday and he would take him on a real fishing trip and Todd said at the end of the day it was his best birthday present ever. The final fish count for today was 78 nice speckled trout 13 red fish and 1 puppy drum.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First off I would like to thank every one for a great year here in the Sportsman’s Paradise that we call home.It was my best year ever with my clients catching well over 20000 fish off of my boat this year. It also looks like that 2011 is going to be as good or (if possible) better than 2010.We have some great things planed for 2011 with some expansions in our housing for our clients and the addition of offering off shore trips and some additional hunting opportunities with hog hunts deer hunts and dove hunts along with duck hunts.
Now for the final fishing report of 2010.Hello fellow anglers today I had the pleasure of guiding Mr.Paul and his son and his sons friend in from Texas to celebrate the holiday’s with family and friends on the water.I thought today was going to be a blow out on the red fish because of the easy limits we caught yesterday but right where we caught them at we didn’t even get a bite!!! Go figure that. So luckily we had some live Campos shrimp so no problem or so I thought but after 6 stops at spots where I have been slaughtering the trout we still had not a fish one in the box (a guides worst nightmare). But we never say quit here at Sportsmans Paradise and we pressed on and with water on the rise and the water temperatures coming up we hit a deep canal and FINALLY we caught the ice breaker fish and from that point on it was steady action with some quality trout up to 4.5 pounds coming in the boat. Today was by far the toughest fishing trip of the year but I was able to pull the old rabbit out of the hat at the last minute.
All fish today were caught on Campos live shrimp 2 feet under a rattling cork. The final tally was 76 trout 2 red fish 1 puppy drum and 1 flounder. A great time was had by all today and the group said that this was going to become their hilliday tradition next year.
