Hello fellow anglers. What a great fishing trip with a very nice couple that came in on Friday evening to fish the weekend with us. we all visited at the camp over some fresh fried bass and some of the best fried onion rings on the planet and talked about how good the fishing has been in Hopedale as of late and after stuffing our faces we hit the hay ready to hit the water in the morning. I awoke to the sound of rain pelting the top of the trailer but I got the boat ready and hoped the weather would pass but it looked like a tornado swirling around and around so we canceled Saturday and went back to the camp and pigged out on some fat boiled crabs that my brother and Mr. John had caught that day.

Sunday started off with a little showers but on the weather radar but

the sound was clear as a bell so that’s where we headed and sure enough the rain was only about 2 miles thick and we were out of it. The first spot produced a few trout and a ton of catfish and a bunch of bait stealer’s so off to spot 2 where Mr. Irvin picked up 3 nice red fish and we caught a few more specks. Spot 3 we caught about 8 or ten trout but the wind had every spot beat up pretty bad and the water was’nt getting any better so on to plan B and to the interior lakes for some rod bending reds and drum fishing.

Spot 1 was just the ticket we needed to make a good day of tough weather conditions with it producing 11 more red fish and 7 drums and 3 bay snappers with a lot of action in between. Mr. Irvin had been politicking with his wife to stay another day and ater we found the fish they decided to do just that so with a nice box of fish we headed to the dock to wrap up day one.

All in all a great time was had by all and the final fish count was 14 red fish 7 drums and 13 trout and 3 bay snappers. We will be back at it tomorrow morning and ill post the results after that.

Hello fellow anglers. What a great fishing trip with a a nice pair of guys in from Shreveport  Louisiana for some trout action at the beach and today was a little tougher then the last few trips because of the winds but we made a good day of it in spite of the

weather conditions. We picked up some bait and headed for the sound and at the forst spot we picked up a few trout and a red fish but that bite quickly fell off and we hit another spot and that was the ticket with the bite not fast and furious but it was steady and fast enough to catch their limits of trout with a few reds and drums mixed in and even a huge black drum of 44 pounds.

Today was the first time for Dan and his son Kyle to fish at Shell Beach and they were impressed with the fishery and the area in general and its closeness to New Orleans and all of the other ares of interest. They were eager to get home and to tell their friends about their trip and plan their next trip down.

Hello fellow anglers. What a great fishing trip with a fun group of guys today. I met the guys at my dock at 5:30 with the live well full of Campos live and kicking shrimp and we headed out to the hot spot of the summer and we had the spot all to ourselves all day long but it only took about 2 hours to ice a limit of trout and we caught at least 2 more limits of fish that the guys threw back just for the pure fun of it. The action was fast and furious from the first cast when Jake made a cast to the rig before the anchor was set he had a nice big trout coming over the side and Kyle was next followed just about as quick by Skull as they call him with three trout flopping on the bottom I got the anchor tied off and got every body set up and the fun was on with double and triple hook ups the norm all morning until the bait well was almost empty and the guys said lets try to catch some red fish and we left the trout eating it up in search of reds. We found some reds and a few drums also with the occasional bay snapper mixed in just for some rod bending action but the guys didn’t want them so we let them live for next time.

These guys were a hoot to fish with they gave each other such a hard time especaly if one of them missed a fish or lost one after a hook up but it was all in good fun. This was the first trip in Louisiana for all of the guys and they were impressed with the abundance of fish that we caught and they already set up their next trip with me in two weeks and cant wait until the. The final fish count for the day was 75 nice speckled trout 5 reds and 5 drums. Most all of the fish were caught on live shrimp under a rattling popping cork but we did catch 15 nice trout on top water top dogs in the bone and chartreuse color and 10 or 12 fish on plastics in the opening night color.

Hello fellow anglers. What a great fishing trip with a crew form the Logistics support team for the vessels of opportunity in Hopedale and these guys work real hard tyring to keep every thing running smooth. Today’s trip I had Capt. Sandy on the boat and part of his crew from BP and after Sandy saw  our trout  smack down that we put on the fish yesterday he couldn’t wait to get at the action. After fighting the cluster going on with the fuel in Shell Beach and getting fueled up I met the guys at the dock and we hit the sound a little later than the day before but that didn’t stop us from hammering the fish and it was as fast as it gets with doubles and triples flying on board until we had 100 trout on ice and the sun was easing down and we headed for the dock with smiles plastered on the guys faces and thoughts of the next trip on their minds. These guys could really fish and were a blast to fish with and they had a great time laughing and joking around with each other all evening long. Capt. Sandy has another group going out tomorrow and I made sure the captains knew where the fish were at so they can slam them for the third day in a row. All in all a great time was had by all and the guys took bags full of fillets to the house ready for a fish fry.

Hello fellow anglers.  What a great time at the beach. Today I had the pleasure of fishing with three fine coast guard men in from all over the United States in Louisiana to help with the  disaster in the gulf and this was their first time salt water fishing in Louisiana. It was supposed to be four men set up by Capt. Sandy (many thanks capt.)  but Mr. Sandy had something come up and he couldn’t come much to his chagrin especially after he saw the smack down we put on the trout today but he said that was just fine because he was already planing his next trip with us as we were out there smoking the fish.

I met the guys at 4 pm at the dock and today on the boat with me were Aaron, Erik and Benito and they didn’t really know what to expect from an area that they have been working in and little did they know they were in one of the best speckled trout and red fisheries in the world and today proved that statement in spades with one stop we filled the fish box almost to over flowing with 100 fat specks in a little over an hour. The fish were on fire eating our shrimp as fast as the guys could get them in the water and when the trout slam was over the sun was setting fast so we headed towards the house and we stopped at a couple of spots to try for some red fish but we could only manage a bunch of small reds and puppy drums and one nice bay snapper that we kept to eat. The guys were totally blown away by the wonderful fishery that we have here in Louisiana and they saw why the state and the world were so concerned and were doing so much to retain the estuary that is so valuable to Louisiana and the supply of sea food to areas all over the world.

I wanted to thank Capt. Sandy for setting up the trip for the coast guard guys. The guys had a great time on the water with a stellar day of trout fishing and said they were in for 6 more weeks and would try to make at least one more trip with me if time permits. They were a blast to fish with and I am looking forward to fishing with the again.

Hello fellow anglers. What a great time on the water with a fun group of guys from the BPI and Laticrete companies. The group had spent the night in Capt. Dudes facilities and were rearing to go at 5:30 in the morning and it looked like an absolutely perfect day with light winds a good tide and only a slight chance of showers and snap crackle pop sure enough it came to pass. After loading up with live Campos shrimp we hit the sound and one of my hot spots for this year and that was all it took to catch a fish box of nice trout which all fell to shrimp rigged 3 feet under a rattling cork. At first the fish were scattered out with one fish here and one fish here and the a shower started our way off in the distance and the fish turned on and we caught them in bunches on all sides of the boat until the shower passed just to our west and moved off into the distance and the sun came out and like a light switch the trout turned off and the trash fish showed up to drive us crazy, and with the trout fever squelched and the looming long drive for the guys Mr. Sam said how about we try for a few red fish on the way to the dock and we hit a few of my spots but with the west wind it had pushed a ton of river water over my spots but we did manage a few reds and a bunch of

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Mr.Dale Mr. Jeff Mr. Sam and Mr. John in from Mississippi, Tennessee and Louisiana. These guys fish a lott with Capt. Gene and could really fish and all of them caught a Lott of fish and had a great time laughing and joking around all day on the boat and were already planing their next fishing trip at the dock. The final fish count for the day was 76 trout 4 puppy drums and 1 red fish and 1 bay snapper.

A table full for the Tennesee group

er with a fine family in from Nashville Tennessee for some of the greatest fishing on the planet and today was spot on as the chefs of the world would say. I met the guys RE. Jake  his son Tom and his youngest son Bill at the dock at 6  am and they were ready to stretch their collective strings and I said it was on and off we went.

The weather didn’t look particularly promising we we left the dock but as they say it is what it is and we were lucky most of the day dodging the showers with only getting caught a couple of time but it was just enough rain to cool things off for a minute and then it would pass on. I had a solid game plan for the day with a good friend of mine on some good fish in the Black Bay area and many thanks to him they were still there and hungry. The first stop around the islands produced 20 nice trout and 3 reds and 1 fat flounder until a squall came at us and forced us to move further out into the bay but that was a good thing because at the second stop that was all it took to finish off their limits of nice trout up to 4.5 pounds and a few reds and a few flounders mixed in. Just as we hit their limits the weather started to look bad to the south so I asked the guys if they wanted to try for some reds and try to sty dry and the all agreed that was a good plan of attack so off to the interior pounds we went. We hit a few pounds until we found just the right combination of current and structure on the points and the fish were there and eating the shrimp up but it was mostly black drums and the guys didn’t want any drums so they caught about 25 or 30 drag pulling drums and 3 nice red fish and 1 more flounder to fill the fish box to its rim before the rain was on our heels again and we headed to the barn with smiles all around and brisk conversation about their next trip down to fish with us in a couple of months.

Most of the fish today were caught on live shrimp 3 feet under a rattling cork but we also caught a few fish on shrimp carolina rigged ans Tom even caught about 10 or 12 trout on a opening night plastic grub rigged up on a flutter hook and the plastic fish were a little bigger than the live bait fish but they bit a lot slower. These guys sure could fish good and it an easy day on the boat when people know what they are doing and want to do every thing for them selves which I don’t mind doing at all but they insisted that I help get them some meat for their freezers and I gladly obliged them. This family fishes with me on a regular basis and are chomping at the bit waiting for their next trip. The final fish count for the day was 75 fat speckled trout 6 reds and 3 flounders.

Hello fellow anglers.  Sorry about my absence from the web but because I smoked my motor the other day and it took TIMS FOREVER to fix it and some pretty devastating family occurrences I’ve been down and haven’t fished in 2 weeks and am having some serious withdrawals.

With that being said I met a great group of guys in from Lafayette La. in on another of their many fishing trips usually with Capt. Gene but he had to work toady so I helped him out with this group. The guys Larry and his friends staryed in the trailers last night and were up early and ready to go catch the trout  up and one stop was all it  took today despite of the look of the conditions 25 mile west wind no tide and impending showers all around we made a great day of it catching 80 trout and 3 drums. A nice box of fish mainly because these guys can really fish and were a blast to fish with. Guys like these sure make my job easy and Mr. Larry was a fine deck hand stand in for me today (hahahaha just kidding). After we caught a box of trout the guys wanted to try for some red fish but with the tide dead low we could only manage 3 drums and a ton of misses but no great loss because the guys had smoked the reds the evening before so the guys went home with a chest full of fresh trout fillets and a few bags of red fish on the half shell for the grill.

All fis were caught on live Campos shrimp under a rattling cork today. Larry and his group will be back with me next week end and hopefully we will smoke the fish again either way we will have a great time on the water. We are booking blast and cast trips for the fall right now but the days are booking up quickly so get your days early.

Hello fellow anglers. What a great fishing trip with a wonderful family in from Woodville Mississippi  for some rest and recuperation and some rod bending action with us and we filled that order today. Although we didn’t have the luxury of live and kicking Campos shrimp we made a good day fishing with market bait and plastics any way.

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Mr. Jake Mrs Amy and a future FLW fishing champion Mr. Cash and boy did cash hang in there like a trooper he only took a few power naps and he was hard at it the rest of the trip helping out and reeling in fish. He also helped to catch a fish that was twice his size and boy did he get excited when we landed the gargantuan black drum and took a bunch of pictures and put him back to bend someone else’s rod at a later date. We only had to make two stops and we used every piece of bait we brought. The action wasnt fast and furious but it was steady all day long until the bait ran out and the weather was pushing in from the south and it was a wrap as they say. The final fish count for today was 33trout  20 drums and 7 reds not a bad day considering all things that were against us. Every one had a great time and cant wait until their next trip down to the beach to stretch their lines again with us.

Hello fellow anglers. Made a trip through the Atchafalaya spillway on Friday with the two Ricky’s from Denim Springs to try and catch some green trouts and boy did we smoke them today.  We met up at Holiday Inn for the ride down south and picked up a few shiners for some sac-a-lait just in case the bass decided not to cooperate but today that was not the case because we pulled up to the first set of run outs around Grand lake and the bass were stacked like cord wood there and were eating up every thing we threw at them but the hotest bait was a new crank bait made by bandit in the citrus shad color but we also caught bass on my favorite worm the Berkly power worm in the June bug color and spinner baits in white and chartreuse and a few fish also fell victim to the baby brush hog in the green apple color. Most of the bass were around 13 to 14 inches but we did manage to catch our limits of bass in the 2 to 4 pound range and after we caught and released bass for several hours (we caught in excess of 200) we started in on the sacs but they never really ate it up but we ended catching 41 sacs 15 bass and 77 bream and goggle eyes to almost fill up a 110 quart igloo. Its been a late year for the spillway but if it continues to drop the action should hold up well into the fall. We also checked a few canals on the way back to the dock and every where we found clear water with not too much grass the bass were there and hungry. All in all a great day on the water with a great couple of guys.
