Hello fellow anglers. What a wind blown day on the water!!! I had a group of poker buddies from Baton Rouge that wanted to learn the Shell Beach and Delacroix marsh area and learn some good fishing spots and asked if I would take them fishing in their boat and that is a part of my bussiness that most people don’t even know that exists, I said sure its called a ride along and I do it all the time becaus it is much easier for some one to learn a new area when you are driving your own boat and watching the routes that you take in and out of the new location and also with the new electronics on most boats tracks can be laid down on them and that makes it so easy to go back to the area and not have to worry about getting lost and not making it back to the launch site. For the money I think its the best investment a fisherman can make to better their chances of catching fish which is the ultimate goal of a fishing trip and gaining the knowledge that a guide like myself has gained with over 25 years of fishing this area.
I met the guys that drove in this morning at the dock at 6 am and after a little battery problems we were off to have a good time. Mr. John wanted to start in the Black Bay area and I told we could try if the wind would let us but this time of year the weather is hit or miss and today was no exception with te weather man predicting 10 mph winds we tried but when we hit the bay it was more like 25 knots than 10 knots so we went to plan-B. We started arou nd the interior lakes around lake Campo and four horse and we caught speckled trout every where we fished but a Lott of throw backs mixed in but its was good to see the trout FINALLY showing up. After chasing specks for a while I asked the guys were they ready to bend the rod and they said what was the hold up and off we went to a spot around Four horse and as we say that was a wrap. Before I could get the anchor set two of the guys had a fish on and the action was steady until the 100 quart ice chest was level full with red fish and black drum and bay snappers. The final fish count for the day was 23 red fish 13 black drum 10 speckled trout and 3 bay snappers. A good time was had by all and every one caught plenty of fish. These guys were a balst to fish with and they cant wait until the next time we can go out to do it again.
The trout action is starting to heat up right now and the the red fishing and black drum fishing continues to be great also the fresh water fishing is great right now with plenty of bass, bream and sacalait and catfish being caught on our trips so if you would like to make a fishing trip with us give me a call or drop me an email id love to take you and yours out on the water.
We also test drove a new boat that we are fixing to add to our boat fleet a 28 foot world cat boat that my brother Ricky is going to captain out of to catch the big boys like red snapper tuna yahoo grouper ling and any other deep sea fish that might be caught on an off shore trip. The boat was phenominal with the way it handled the four foot rollers in lake Maure-pas and it really impressed me with the speed (56 mph +) and the handling of the side seas that a lot of the cats have trouble with. It was mine and my brothers first time in a planing catamaran boat ever and we were both pleased with every aspect of the boat and cant wait to add it to our fleet to increase our fishing options.
With the new big boat it will make our motto even easier to live up to which is RAIN OR SHINE SLEET OR SNOW IF YOY COME WE WILL GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Capt Ron
